So fresh & so clean, clean! Lol
Ok, so I just got to take a long shower, which is a nice little change. There’s something about showering in hotels… I just don’t know what it is. Think I’m weird all you want, but I like it! Haha
So last night Dani & I split a plate of Pasta Carbonara, and man was it great! Pasta Carborara is spaghetti with cheese, egg, and little chopped pieces of ham. It’s yummy, so just take my word for it why don’t cha!
After dinner we walked over to a night club called “Picolo Mundo,” to see if we could find where it was, but as it was only around 8pm, the club wasn’t open until 11pm. We decided to take a stroll and head back to the hotel and relax before we went back out for the evening. Needless to say, I hung out and watched “The Notebook,” which was translated into Italian (amazing! I loved it!), while Dani napped. I swear that girl can sleep anywhere! Even on our way back from Murano yesterday she fell asleep on the water bus! How she can do it, I just don’t know! Haha
Anywho, we got up this morning and went straight to “La Post Italiani,” located on the backside of Piazza San Marco. We had to hunt down our own boxes and tape, as the post office doesn’t provide these services. A sweet shop owner lady was nice enough to help us out. Apparently she said she sends packages to Moscow everyday, so she knows all about it! It took us about 20 minutes to get everything taken care of, but needless to say, Henderson, NV will be receiving a package sometime in the future… I ask for everybody’s prayers at this point because I really really really want that package to make it back home. It has important things in it, and if it gets lost…oh man, I’m going to cry for a week!
ANYWAYS, we ran back to the hotel to grab some stuff and then it was off to Lido for the majority of the day! Lido is a looong skinny island to the right of the main Venice island. Appropriately I can now say, “Screw Venice Beach, California, I’ve actually been to the beach in Venice!” haha Basically, the far side is one long stretch of beach… it’s where Venice Beach in California gets it’s name. From where we set up camp, the beach looked like it stretched at least a mile and a half on either side of us. It was gorgeous! Looking out onto the water, ocean stretched as far as my eyes could see. There were families and couples, other vacationers, teens, and older folk alike, stretched out on their towels and playing in the water everywhere. Venice, needless to say, has been a really nice change of pace. There’s not a whole lot to do on the islands, but it has been fabulous for relaxing and slowing down the pace.
I really liked the beach in Lido. There were men wandering around trying to sell jewelry, henna tattoos and fake purses alike, but there were hardly any compared to the beaches I’ve been to in Mexico. We were barely bothered. There was a man who drug his HUGE rolly cart with cold beverages, ice creams, waters, and slushies. And of course I had to indulge myself with a cherry slushee. It hit the spot for sure! So, Dani and I spent about 5 hours lounging on the beach, going back and forth from our towels into the perfectly temperatured waters. The water was not super warm, but it was the perfect temperature to dip into for a quick cool off. The ocean floor stretched about three or so feet deep for at least 50 yards and then four feet after that for another 50 yards. It was amazing! And, even better, there were so man gorgeous seashells, that I had to limit myself from picking some up because otherwise I would have probably brought back the entire beach to Nevada! Then again, Nevada could use a beach! Haha I took a picture of how covered the san was with shells, but it’s hard to see. You had to pass the three feet of shells before you reached the sand, which felt like silk beneath your feet.
So relaxing and cat napping all day on the beach was wonderful! And then… I met my lovely Italian friend Luca (apparently everyone in Italy is named Luca, by the way). Luca is originally from Rome, but he’s currently living in Milan and taking a weeks vacation in Venice with his soccer friends. Luca plays football, and excuse me everyone for saying that the man has the body to prove it! Gosh, what is it about soccer, I mean futbol, players? Anyways, with an accent to melt your heart, and a face to swoon you in your dreams, my handsome Italian man entertained me with conversation for a bit, while also trying to invite Dani and I for a night of dinner and dancing at the “high end” discotheques in Venice! Ha! Imagine that! Ok, so I know you’re thinking, “well that’s not surprising,” especially after everyone warning us of the pushy Italian men, but I’ve yet to really be hit on, and yet again, I have yet to travel to Rome… there’s where the trouble will await! (Never fear mother! You’ve raised a smart girl!) And, I promise I won’t fall in love, to never return home to you again! I’ll be sure to come home before I sign the marriage certificate…. Hahahaha JUST KIDDING!
So, for entertainment’s sake, Dani and I found our first “Italian Stallion.” He presented himself to us in the form of approximately in his mid to late thirties, oiled up from head to toe beyond all reason, posing, YES! Posing in the water for all to see! It was laughs and a half! And, yes we snapped a picture for the heck of it! Haha
Needless to say, I love the beach in Venice. The “topless” beach in Venice. Have I forgot to mention that part of it? The funny thing is, that it’s not a big deal here at all, and it didn’t bother me one bit. I swear I love the European cultures. People are so not high strung. They relax and are not bothered by so many of the prudish things we Americans freak out about.
So as Annie Lennox’s “Sweet Dreams” comes on again for the fifth time in about thirty minutes for an Olympics commercial, I’m wondering when Dani is going to be finished in the bathroom. Home girl’s been in there for days! Haha just kidding!
We’ll go grab a bite to eat and see where the Venetian air takes us tonight! Maybe to another island? Maestre? I’m not sure, we’ll see.
Tomorrow morning, we have to catch our bus back to the airport at an ungodly hour of 5am or so. We arrive in Rome around 10-something in the morning. The flight should only be about 40 minutes, but the bus ride into the city should be another story! Hopefully our hostel won’t be hard to find!
Alright, time for dinner!
Prego! Ciao!
